Is there a way to alter the "voice" used by the Festival TTS engine?

No, festival only supports 1 voice font.

Because festival is a rather limited TTS (Text To Speech) Engine, it is deprecated for use with the Plum Voice Platform. All new IVR servers that Plum ships use Cepstral instead of Festival, as it is a much better TTS platform, with support for multiple voice fonts.

How do you change the voice font for Cepstral TTS?

turns out we do have the Cepstral instead of Festival. :) So now my question is how do you change the voice font for Cepstral?

upcoming IVR platform release will have many new voices

You can change the voice font for Cepstral using the <voice> tag. For a complete description of the <voice> tag along with an example, please visit the Plum IVR Programmer's reference manual. It is the definitive source for information specific to the Plum VoiceXML platform.

NOTE: Currently the Cepstral engine that is used with the plumvp allows for 2 different voice fonts (Frank and Emily). In the upcoming IVR platform release (v2.4.2), expect to see many new voices! :)

NOTE: This question is not really appropriate here, since this category contains information on administering the plum IVR platform. Since the question deals with developing applications in vxml, please post any future IVR application questions under the Plum Developer Q &A forum. This will ensure that the information in each category remains consistent. Thank You!
