data stream available instead of voice channel

Post by Brad Ashmore »

Hello,

We are developing a mobile application for which we would like to use the multi-mode interaction, including voice (per VXML). To accomplish this, we seek to access Plum via a data channel rather than the PSTN. Is this possible, e.g., to post a URL to Plum and establish a VXML voice interaction over that data stream?

I hope this is clear; we are open to any variation that can be supported in a data stream.

Thanks,
Brad

IVR outbound call initiation vs voice over IP

Post by support »

By data stream, do you mean Voice over IP? Or are you referring to IVR outbound call initiation?

It is not outbound call initiation, which we presently employ. That uses the PSTN voice channel.

I am not sure what we are requesting is technically VoIP, which I read that Plum does not support. Can a data stream (not PSTN voice) be opened via which a user can have their Plum-hosted VXML interaction?

Limits of IVR platform

Post by support »

VoiceXML was not designed with that kind of interactivity in mind. If you wish to build multimodal applications, we recommend you looking into XHTML+Voice (http://www.voicexml.org/specs/multimodal/x+v/12/) or Microsoft SALT (http://www.microsoft.com/speech/evaluation/speechtags/) instead of the IVR platform.

We'd like to stay with Plum, so, limiting to voice only, can Plum handle voice interaction via a data stream? Thanks!

More details needed to create IVR application

Post by support »

Unfortunately there's no direct way to use VoiceXML and Plum's IVR platform to build an IVR multimodal application.

Can you provide greater detail on the architecture of the IVR application you have in mind? There may be other ways to drive the interactivity that you are contemplating.
